Sir Edmund Hillary was felicitated with the Honorary Membership  of the New Zealand Indian Central Association.(only conferred to Sir Bill Birch and Late Mr. David Lange earlier) on Saturday 9th June 2007. The humble function was organized at Sir Edmund's residence only to make it convenient for Sir Edmund Hillary and his wife June Hillary. Although Sir Hillary said" I feel honoured" it was the whole community of Kiwis of Indian origin that felt honoured by him accepting  the membership by Sir Ed.

NZICA recognizes Sir Ed's heroic feats and the service he has rendered to the people of Indian subcontinent and would like to work with him in delivering the facilities at various schools and hospitals started by Sir Ed.

President NZICA Mr. Ratilal Champaneri read the citation and offered Sir Ed a plaque at the function which was also attended by the leaders of the NZICA from various parts of NZ
